Cbwc La Resistance Grenache Syrah Mourvedre Chaffey Bros Wine Co 2018
Vineyard: This is a vinous rematch of the original 1811 Napoleonic battle at Barrosa Ridge near Cadiz – the scene from which the Barossa valley derives its name. Now the Spanish grape varieties are invading the Barossa’s old soils, which had previously been planted with old guard French varieties only. The Tempranillo comes from two vineyards: one on silty soil set next to the Tanunda golf course, the other in the richer clay and brown earth soils of Nuriootpa. The Grenache is from the famous sandy Vine Vale region and from the blue-chip foothills at the top of Krondorf Road with up to 70+ years of vine age. Finally the Graciano is from recently planted vines in the limestone-rich soils of the northern Eden Valley.
Vinification: Fermentation takes place in open fermenters with 7 days of maceration before pressing into barrels. A relatively higher pH is tolerated for the Tempranillo as we anticipate the natural acidity of the Grenache and Graciano will offset this in the ultimate blend. Barrels are mostly used French and American hogsheads (300L), where they mature separately for about 7 months only before bottling.
Rich red blend from South Australia, scented with lavender and herbs, particularly thyme and washing the tongue with red berries.
This is an upfront wine that commands an upfront partner, go unfussy with Pork sausages with onion relish and mustard.
